Level Design Projects
Description:
The projects above are some in-class examples that I have worked on with a group of peers to design levels around specific themes that the professor wanted us to focus on during the course. Each project has a unique sketch and pattern that they relate with to explain the process of our design. Note: these are not fully published game experiences as the focus was more on the level design and less on the implementation of mechanics.

Contributions:
I would create a sketch of specific areas to implement and then would go about adding the designs for specific areas as needed to showcase the pattern we had been working on for the given week.
Made in Unity

Challenges:
I did not have much experience with generating models, but I asked my peers for assistance and my professor would allow us to use models as long as we cited the source, and if I needed help I would ask for help amongst my peers
Extra:
Most of the patterns made during this class can be viewed at the website linked below when searching for "Joel B." as the author (no other fields necessary)

Project 4 - Emotional Scene - Link to itch page
In this scene, we wanted to invoke the feeling of horror and paranoia due to the lack of visibility within a level to show how narrow spaces and little information combined with ominous lighting can invoke a feeling of paranoia and fear within a player. On the left you will see a sketch of the level we wanted to create with the result of the project on the right.

Project 6 - Filling in the map - Link to itch page
In this scene, we wanted to showcase how landmarks help fill the player in on not only where they are on the map, but also explain what happened in the location that they are in without the need for dialogue to explain what happened in the area. Thus, we created a dessert like area with ancient ruins to explain what had occurred on this once habitable planet and what the creatures on the planet looked like. We also used a terrain builder and lighting to also add to the dessert like environment similar to how dessert planets are depicted in movies.

Final Project - Sci-fi Murder Mystery - Link to itch page
In this scene, we wanted to have a futuristic murder mystery scene where you play as the detective who is solving the crime by using holograms to portray the events of the night. As you review the guests behavior, you will learn who was murdered, how they were murdered, and who killed the victim by using your old watch to reverse the time of the events via holographic images. Will you be able to properly convict the killer and uncover the events that occurred that night?
